Letter wall art is a great way to teach young children letter recognition, which is why it’s such a popular choice of genre for wall art for nurseries and children’s bedrooms. We share monograms we have designed for some of our favourite girls names using pressed flowers and embroidery and share our ideas for different types of letter wall art.
Types Of Letter Wall Art
Monogram – One or more letters, typically the initials of a name.
Abbreviations – A short form of a word or phrase
Acronyms – An abbreviation made from the first letter of each word
Words – Letters that make up a whole word
Slogans – A phrase used repeatedly like a moto.
Quotes – To repeat or copy the words spoken by another person
Monograms
We love designing monograms and also personalising them with a hand written name underneath. These embroidered monograms are handmade using silk and alpaca stitch work and museum grade papers. Each piece is printed with pressed flowers which were grown in a small garden in Somerset and pressed in a traditional flower press. Here are some of our favourite and favourite names which you can order from our Contempfleury shop.

Traditionally many themes are used to adorn alphabet artwork for children’s nurseries and young children’s bedroom like, dinosaurs, fairies, rainbows & unicorns, but these have a an expiration date. A date when your child outgrows their early childhood passions and want to be more grown up. Contempfleury letter art is designed to transcend not only developmental stages but also time. It’s artwork for all ages!

As gifts from parents, godparents, friends and family.
Birthdays
Whether gifting on the birth of a child or for their 3rd, 8th, 15th or 50th birthday, this art can be ageless!
Weddings
Gifts to thank flower girls, and the maid of honour at your wedding, for playing an important part in your special day.
Abbreviations
Thinking about using abbreviation for letter wall art, I began to brainstorm what abbreviations would make great art. You probably see abbreviations and acronyms all over the internet. Here are a few texting abbreviations that would be great as art:
LOL – Laugh Out Loud
ILY – I Love You
BFF – Best Friends Forever
FIMH – Forever In My Heart
Abbreviations for geography and map locations:
SW – Southwest
NW – Northwest
SE – Southeast
NE – Northeast
Words
Choosing words to make into art can add a deeply personal touch to a room. For example a person practising yoga or meditation may choose words like ‘namaste’ or ‘inhale’ to hang on their walls. Below is a piece of art I made for a friend a few years ago.
Likewise choosing words from different languages is fun. Here is a piece of wall art I made using the word home in English, Greek and Italian, to represent my families ethnicity.
Slogans and Quotes
Displaying slogans and quotes that mean something to you can be motivational and inspiring. I love quotes linked to nature like the following:
‘‘Life itself is the most wonderful fairy tale’’ Hans Christen Anderson
‘’You can’t use up Creativity. The more you use, the more you have.’’ Maya Angelou
‘‘Why fit in when you were born to stand out?’’ Dr. Seuss
‘’If you can dream it, you can do it.’’ Walt Disney
‘‘Great things often start off small.’’ Roald Dahl
